Privacy first

Your photos never touch our servers

Many online metadata removers send your files to a server for processing. ExifSafe is different — all cleaning happens entirely within your browser using standard Web APIs. We cannot see, store or analyze your photos because they never leave your device. ExifSafe is completely free, requires no account, and does not use cookies, analytics, telemetry, advertising pixels or usage tracking.

Common photo metadata examples

Photos can contain hidden information that is not visible when you simply look at the image.

Depending on the device, camera app, editor and file format, an image may include technical metadata such as capture time, camera model, GPS location, software information or color profiles. ExifSafe helps remove common metadata by creating a cleaned copy locally in your browser.

GPS location

Some photos may include coordinates showing where the image was taken if location tagging was enabled.

Camera or phone model

Image files can include the device or camera model used to capture the photo.

Date and time

Photos may store capture timestamps or editing timestamps inside the file.

Lens and exposure settings

JPG photos often include technical photography details such as lens, ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

Editing software

Some files include information about the app or software used to create or edit the image.

Color profiles and comments

PNG, JPG and WEBP files may contain color profile data, comments or other embedded information.

ExifSafe is a lightweight browser-based cleaner. It removes common metadata through browser re-export, but it is not a forensic metadata audit.

FAQ

Straight answers about private photo cleaning.

Does ExifSafe upload my photos to a server?

No. Photos are processed locally in your browser. They never leave your device.

Which metadata does ExifSafe remove?

The browser re-exports the image from pixel data, which removes common embedded metadata such as EXIF, GPS location, camera model and timestamps. Some unusual or proprietary metadata may require advanced server-side tools in a future version.

Will the image quality change after cleaning?

JPEG and WEBP files are exported with high quality settings. PNG files are exported losslessly where supported by the browser. In most cases, visual quality stays the same.

Which file formats are supported?

The current version supports JPG, PNG and WEBP images.

Is there a file size limit?

The current limit is 20 MB per file to keep browser processing fast and stable.

How can I verify that my image was not uploaded?

Open your browser's Developer Tools, go to the Network tab, then clean a photo. You should not see the image file being sent to any server.

Does ExifSafe use analytics or track usage?

No. ExifSafe does not use analytics, telemetry, cookies, advertising pixels or event tracking. We do not count visitors or monitor how people use the tool.
